Heavy Duty -

Dolly bases have a sturdy, riveted channel frame construction and are available in aluminum and stainless steel materials.

A variety of plate casters is available to configure a heavy duty cart specific to the application and environment.

  • The rigid dolly provides greater stability, control, and impact resistance especially when traveling long distances , over rough or choppy floors , over-the-road, or across thresholds.
  • Mobile dolly trucks have a maximum weight load capacity of 1000lbs. (454kg) evenly distributed.
  • Bumpers are included: choice of either corner bumpers or full wraparound bumper.
  • Plate casters are available in swivel, swivel/brake, rigid, and brake/lock versions.
  • Plated caster models are suitable for dry environments. Stainless Steel cart washable models are available for corrosive applications.
  • Dolly bases can be installed on each of Metro’s wire and plastic shelving systems.

When choosing dolly bases and plate casters consider the load requirement, environment where it will be used, type of floor, and the method of cleaning. Special staked posts are recommended to ensure a durable connection to the dolly base.

Dolly Bases

Aluminum Dolly

• Aluminum offers good rigidity and overall durability.

• Corner bumpers and wraparound bumper options are available.

• Standard sizes available for Metro 18, 21, and 24” (457, 530, 610mm) deep shelving.

• Plate casters are selected separately

Stainless Steel Dolly

• Stainless steel is Metro’s strongest, most rigid dolly base and is appropriate for cart wash applications.

• Corner bumpers and wraparound bumper options are available.

• Standard sizes available for Metro 18, 21, and 24” (457, 530, 610mm) deep shelving.

• Plate casters are selected separately

Plate Casters – Dry environments

B-plate casters offer the basic benefits of a dolly truck – basic impact resistance when overcoming thresholds and ramps within a facility.

C-Plate casters feature a larger 2” (51mm) wheel face for easier maneuverability on rough floors, for absorbing impact from ramps and thresholds and for over-the-road applications. C-plate casters are recommended for heavier loads and the most abusive mobile conditions.

B-plate, Polyurethane

• Flat, Polyurethane tread. Non marking.

• Swivel, swivel/brake, and rigid options available.

• Cart with polyurethane B-plate casters has a maximum capacity of 900lbs. (408kg)

• 5” (127mm) diameter wheel

B-plate, Neoprene

• Donut neoprene tread. Non marking.

• Swivel, swivel/brake, and rigid options available.

• Cart with neoprene plate casters has a maximum capacity of 675lbs. (306kg)

• 5” (127mm) diameter wheel

C-plate, Polyurethane

• Flat, Polyurethane tread.  Non marking.
• Swivel, swivel/brake, rigid and Swivel/Lock options available.
• Cart with polyurethane C-plate casters has a maximum capacity of 1000lbs. (454kg)
6” and 8” (152 and 203mm) diameter wheel options available

C-plate, High Modulus (Thermoplastic)

• Donut High Modulus tread. Non marking.

• Swivel, swivel/brake, rigid and Swivel/Lock options available.

• Cart with polyurethane C-plate casters has a maximum capacity of 1000lbs. (454kg)

• 6” and 8” (152 and 203mm) diameter wheel options available

Brake Lock / Swivel Lock Combination casters

• Patented, foot-operated design enables a single pair of casters to serve as swivel, rigid, or brake casters.

• The primary benefit is easy maneuvering – Typical configuration includes two swivel casters on one end and brake/swivel lock at the other end. With the swivel/lock casters in the swivel position the cart is easy to reposition in tight spaces. With the swivel lock casters in the rigid position the cart is easy to steer over long distances.

• Polyurethane tread.

• 6” and 8” (152 and 203mm) diameter wheel options available.

Plate Casters - Stainless Steel Cart Washable

These plate casters feature stainless materials and sealed bearings to withstand cart wash applications. Zerk fittings at the swivel and axle allow casters to be greased and maintained as needed.   NSF listed.  Consult your Metro representative for more information.

Standard Duty versus Heavy Duty

Most mobile requirements are satisfied with standard duty stem casters.   Typical examples include:

•Shelving is occasionally repositioned to clean floors and walls.
•Shelving stores soiled items and needs to be sterilized in a cart wash machine or moved to an area for autoclave sterilization.
•Basic transport over shorter distances within a room or between rooms and departments.  This may include rolling  on and off elevators and occasionally over thresholds .

Heavy Duty Applications require a dolly base and plate casters.  Typical examples include:

•Shelving regularly crosses thresholds, travels up and down ramps, and rolls over rougher floors.
•Shelving travels between facilities over the road on a regular basis.
•Heavier weight bearing applications :   plate casters are larger than stem casters offering greater stability, control , and impact resistance .

Rigid casters improve the maneuverability and steering of a cart that must travel long distances.   A rigid channel is provided with each two rigid  casters at no charge.   A typical configuration using rigid casters has two rigid and two swivel/brake casters.
